It all started with an idea

Making a vest from the wool of Tyrolean mountain sheep – and every step of the process should take place in Austria. At a time when the wool and textile industry is becoming increasingly internationalized, it is intended to be a symbol of local quality, creativity and strength. The idea, which was born at a workshop where many people working in the wool industry, from shepherds and knitters to designers, sat around a table, became reality within just eleven months. JMB Fashion Team was a project partner right from the start, but that’s not all: AUTwool would not exist without JMB Managing Director Gert Rücker. He was the one for whom it was not enough to end the workshop without a concrete result. He didn’t just want to talk about it, he wanted to consciously get involved in the project at a financial risk. He says: “Everyone was sitting at the same table, everyone involved in production, from the shepherd through all the steps, including design, filmmakers, marketing, right up to the finished product! Simply everyone! And I asked the question: Can’t we manage to make a purely Austrian product together, from sheep to store, as it were?” In the discussion that followed, we suddenly agreed. We can, want to and do it!”

The result is impressive and proof of what can be achieved through wonderful teamwork! A garment made 100 percent in Austria! A nice detail: one year to the day after this important workshop, the result was presented by Harald Krassnitzer as part of the Austrian Capital of Culture in Ebensee (Upper Austria). The unique vests made from the wool of Austrian sheep are sewn in the Styrian Vulkanland region and sold online at www.autwool.com.
